The pink jequitibá (*Cariniana legalis*), belonging to the Lecythidaceae family, is one of the most imposing native trees in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. It is a large species that can reach extraordinary dimensions in favorable conditions, standing out for its robust trunk, its enlarged crown and its longevity.

It is a semi-deciduous tree, in other words, it may lose part of its leaves during certain periods of the year. Its leaves are simple, green in color, and its flowers are small and discreet. The fruit is a woody capsule that, when it matures, releases seeds that contribute to the natural regeneration of the species.

The pink jequitibá performs an important ecological function, offering refuge and food resources to different organisms and contributing to the maintenance of biodiversity. Due to its large size and growth, it also participates in carbon storage and in the formation of the structure of the forests.

Present mainly in areas of the Atlantic Forest, the jequitibá-rosa has become a symbol of the grandeur of Brazilian flora. Its preservation is especially important in the face of the reduction of its natural habitats and the historical exploitation of large trees.
